OneWorld had Dynamic Jan to June. Thanks to teachers, doctors, volunteers, NHI & the community

We have come to the end of one of our most engaging, challenging, dynamic  and rewarding six months.  We are grateful and happy for the support and the cooperation of so many people.   OneWorld board members rose to the occasion and did a lot of additional work.  Our field videographer, Rob, tried his best to back us up whenever we needed him, and our editor and web master, Jim, worked hard to improve our web site and keep up with editing demands.  A board with fully engaged and committed members is priceless and can do wonders.  Of course, without my wonderful volunteers and in particular Don Fappiano– we would not be able to present live forums at the CTV studio. Without Walter Mann’s cooperation and support we would not have our effective semi-documentary programs at NHTV.  It really takes a village to make things work well.  We thank everyone who helped us and invite you to share your insights with us.

A very special thanks to James O’Connor, principal, Hamden Middle School and Patricia Libero, principal, Carrigan Middle School for their personal involvement in this year’s essay contest.  We got some remarkable essays.  We apologize for the delay in getting the winning essays on the site; they should be in the Eduation Section shortly.  Top prizes went to: Brenda Calderon, age 13, Carrigan Middle; Kristen Stadalnik,  age 13, Hamden Middle, and Abby Jones, Lindsay Hiebert & James Mendillo (all Hamden).

Here is a link to video of OneWorld’s presentations to winners at Carrigan in West Haven.   OneWorld board member, Lisette Bernier-McGowan, is presenting to the top winner, Brenda Calderon.  Check it out–Presentation of 2009 OneWorld Essay Contest Awards  Marc Palmieri presented at Hamden Middle; Lisa Rao went into overdrive to recruit for the CTV women’s health forum.  We thank Tim Dagradi, CTV for his help with the live forums.

Right now you can also visit the Education Section and meet some of the wonderful math & science teachers who were honored on March 21, for Women’s History Month.  Check out the video and hear some of what they have to say; they are from Hamden, NH & WH.  Please encourage your daughters to focus heavily on math and science subjects in school.

We have a summary report for those who would like to see what we consider to be some of our most important accomplishments from Jan. to June, 2009.  If you have not read anything about OneWorld in the past six months, please read the article on the NH Independent web site titled “Tips On Healthy Aging.”  We are very proud of that program, and we again thank the doctors and nurse practitioner who made that program possible.  If you have not yet read the article, here is a link; I promise, it is worth the time.  We thank all those who added resource information.

Lastly, we encourage you to watch “21st Century Conversations” every week; it airs on many different cable systems.  You will find it truly informative. Our health and well-being are priceless and cannot be replaced; we must strive always to maintain health & well-being as BEST we can.  OneWorld reminds you that there is no time like the present to take care of yourself.  Have a wonderful summer!
