You’re Invited: DIALOGUE ON HEALING COMMUNITIES, HEALING SYSTEMS

ATTENTION EVERYONE – YOU ARE INVITED TO PARTICIPATE:

THREE SESSIONS PLANNED: DIALOGUE ON HEALING COMMUNITIES, HEALING SYSTEMS
March 28th, 10AM – 12N at Community Baptist Church, 143 Shelton Ave. NH
April 4th and April 18th from 10-12noon – Places to be Announced.

Two students in the Master of Divinity degree program at Yale Divinity School, with seemingly divergent interests, came upon a way of connecting their internships and, would like to explore the potentials of this commonality.  Agnes Olusese is interning at Community Mediation where she is training as a facilitator of reconciliation in communities throughout the state.  Agnes is an attorney interested in justice, equality and peace issues, specifically with women in Africa and in the world.  This past summer she conducted research with women in Uganda and Kenya that focused on the role women’s groups play as agents of community development and how they could offer a paradigm for international relations and organizations.  Diana Burnett is interning with Clinica Hispana.  She is currently working with the Clinic to develop strategies to employ spirituality as an integral component of the medical treatment equation.  Diana’s background is in health disparities research with particular attention given to African American and Latino communities. Her research has elicited a curiosity that will explore the intersection of activism and artistry particularly as it relates to health care reform.

The intersection of these interests has resulted in the desire to convene a series of three dialogues among members of the Black and Latino community on the issue of healthcare. These conversations are framed around the theme of “Healing Communities, Healing Systems.” The dialogue is designed around the following questions: Is there a need for the healthcare system to address health disparities in Black and Latino communities? Can these two communities work together to attend to this issue. Our hope is that as a result of this dialogue, these two communities will be able to formulate tangible strategies to address this issue.

As people committed to these issues and vested in the concept of peace, justice and healthcare equality, we believe that without care of fundamental human needs, justice and equality is illusory. This work is imagined to extend beyond a dialogue on the elimination of healthcare disparities reaching communities and systems doing the work of justice to achieve peace. We are inviting you to be a part of this groundbreaking dialogue taking place March 28th, April 4th and April 18th  from 10-12noon. Please respond indicating your interest and availability to be involved in this conversation. Being mindful that these dialogues are focused on communities, we encourage you to bring members and representatives of your community.

Signed,
Agnes Olusese & Diana Burnett
